Danny Hernandez- Galatians 1:11-24- The Gospel: Not from Man but Revealed by Christ
- The Gospel of Christ revealed in Paul’s Life (11-15)
- The Gospel of Christ revealed in Paul’s Ministry (16-24)
Context for Galatians:
The book of Galatians is not written to one church but written to a number of churches in the area of Galatia. Paul is writing to these various churches because false teaching has spread throughout this region. These false teachers are spreading lies that the gospel is not simply about having faith in Jesus but, in addition, one is required to obey the legal demands of the law including Jewish customs and traditions, specifically circumcision. It was the gospel plus these Jewish laws that brought salvation. However, the gospel plus anything else is no longer the gospel. So, Paul intends to correct these false teachers and churches. The churches in Galatia had allowed their focus to be redirected away from Christ and back on themselves and their own miserable efforts that would fail them, and, even worse, damn them. The gospel ends and begins with Jesus. Paul will not let the Galatian believers forget that they owe their redemption and their new lives to God’s own mercy and not themselves.
